GRAND MASSIF : COMMUNITY

The communities of the Grand Massif contain more local people than most other ski areas in the Haute Savoie. Although a number of foreign buyers have begun to acquire property in the area, the towns and villages remains very French and traditional. This dictates that for those living in the Grand Massif to fully immerse themselves in local life, the ability to speak French is a must. However, the good news for those that do is that the people in the area are very warm and welcoming, meaning living there can be very pleasant.

Until recently, tourism in the area was dominated by tour operators. However, that is slowly beginning to change as the possibilities from low-cost flights to Geneva kicks in. As one would expect with such a traditional area, foreign school children are much less common than in the neighbouring Portes du Soleil. The nearest commercial center is Cluses, a short drive away from most of the resorts.
