ESPACE DIAMANT : COMMUNITY

The Espace Diamant comprises the 6 ski stations/villages of Praz sur Arly, Flumet/ Saint Nicolas la Chapelle, Notre Dame de Bellecombe, Crest-voland/Cohennoz and Les Saisies/Hauteluce.

These villages have become ski stations in more recent years but their histories pre-date the skiing boom. There are still many local families living and working in these villages, providing them with permanent communities and year round activity. They have nursery schools and primary schools and secondary schools are nearby at Megève, Albertville or Beaufort, depending on the commune (local council). In all of these schools, children are encouraged to develop their skiing, in either 'mini-club' or ski school for older children.

The villages are most active during the winter and summer seasons with numerous festivals, activities and events but out of season village life takes its course and is much calmer. The area is the proud home of a number of AOC (appellation controllée) cheeses, which include:
Abondance, Chevrotin des Aravis, and the famous Beaufort. The cheeses can be purchased from the local co-operatives or directly from the farms where they are produced.

Second home owners here are currently predominantly French but the area is increasingly popular with Swiss, Italian and Belgian buyers. The area is also attracting more recent attention from English buyers. All of these clients appreciate the authenticity of the region, the picture postcard scenery as well as well-preserved heritage and culture of the area. All new development is carefully controlled in order to ensure that the spirit of the villages remains intact.
